Sound of Summermural in the Douglas Design District in Wichita, KS
Title: "Sound of Summer" Location: DPI Building - 2300 E. Douglas
Growing up in Wichita, Delilah’s greatest memories took place on hot summer nights playing hide-n-seek, catching lightning bugs, and laying on a blanket in the grass staring up at the stars listening to the cicadas roar! Wichita has two distinct types of cicadas. We have our annual cicada, the dog-day cicada, that is with us each year. This cicada is our “sound of summer”.
The second cicada that we are fortunate to have is the 17-year cicada which emerges from the ground once every 17 years. In 2015, this emergence took place which Delilah associates with the emergence of the revitalization of our Douglas Design District bringing new life to our community.
